Trash Pick-Up Schedule
Trash service can come very early in the morning, so it is important to have the cans out and facing the street the night before. All trash must be placed in the cans in order to be picked up. Some communities have trash roll-out / roll-back services; you will receive a text with instructions for your home.
Housekeeping & Maintenance
Please report any housekeeping concerns within 24 hours of arrival. Call 800-368-3825 or email service@carolinadesigns.com and include your rental’s property number, your name, phone number, and the nature of your concern. Our office is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Our after-hours number, 252-202-4964, is reserved for extreme emergencies only. Non-emergency issues will not be addressed through the emergency number.
To help us avoid delays or miscommunication, please designate one person in your group to communicate with our housekeeping and maintenance teams.
As a reminder, smoking/vaping of any kind is prohibited inside the house and on decks at all properties. You will be responsible for smoke remediation expenses if smoking or vaping of any kind occurs in the home during your stay. Thank you for disposing of cigarette butts properly and safely.
Vacation Safety
Just as you would at home, please remember to lock your cars when unattended and secure your vacation home when going out and before retiring in the evenings. Please remember that the SmartLock will not automatically lock behind you. Read more about Outer Banks vacation safety.
Pools & Hot Tubs
If you have a pool or hot tub, they are serviced by a third-party vendor on the day of your arrival, and a chemical check is performed mid-week. Our pool vendors start early in the morning and work late; please note that it is not guaranteed that the pool and hot tub will have been serviced by the time you check in. You don’t need to be present for this work to be completed; guests often don’t run into our pool vendors at all! Hot tub water levels are kept at jet level, so water does not overflow when used by multiple people. It is not abnormal for there to be sand in the pool due to the location of our homes, and it does not affect the chemicals. Please do not remove the chlorine floater from the hot tub.
If anyone in your party has an implanted device sensitive to electricity, please contact our office for further information.
POOL RULES:
- Never leave children unattended in the pool area.
- Please report any broken pool gate latches or door alarms to our maintenance department right away.
- If your entire private pool is cloudy and you can’t see the main drain, discontinue use, and contact our maintenance department. Note that sand in the pool is very common in our area due to high winds and shifting dunes, and does not alter the chemical balance of the water.
- If anyone in your vacation group has an implanted device sensitive to electricity, please contact our office for further information.
- Be extra careful on wet, potentially slippery surfaces.
- If your home’s pool is heated, note that the maximum pool heat temperature is 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Heat pump heaters require an ambient air temperature of 60 degrees or higher to heat the pool; if the temperature drops below 60 degrees, the pump will not continue to heat.
- Please abide by all additional posted onsite rules.
HOT TUB RULES:
- Never leave children unattended in the hot tub area.
- Children under 12, elderly persons, and those with health issues should not use the hot tub. Children have an increased risk of skin irritation from hot tub use.
- Always have someone with you while using the hot tub, but don’t overcrowd it. Water can spill over the sides and damage the motor.
- The temperature should not exceed 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Shower before and after using the hot tub.
- Do not remove the chlorine floater. Note that the hot tub’s water may appear cloudy until chemicals have properly dispersed after it is serviced on check-in/check-out day. The hot tub will be checked mid-week by the vendor.
- Turn off jets and replace the hot tub cover when not in use. Please use care when removing and replacing the fragile hot tub cover, and never sit on it. If the hot tub cover is found damaged, please contact our maintenance office.
- Be extra careful on wet, potentially slippery surfaces.
House Tips
- Refrigerators – The refrigerator in your rental home may require a period of 24 hours after your arrival to reach and maintain a normal temperature. This is due to temperature destabilization which occurs from unloading, cleaning, and reloading the unit with groceries on changeover day, especially on hot days. To ensure proper operation, please keep doors closed as much as possible, set all temperature dials on ‘medium’, and do not block the vent which provides cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator. Setting the dials above ‘medium’ could cause the unit to enter auto-defrost mode and shut down.
- Air Conditioning – Did you know that a perfectly functioning air conditioning unit can only keep the top level of a home approximately 20 degrees cooler than the outside heat index? To best maintain temperatures in your home, please keep doors and windows closed, and close blinds or curtains on the top level during the hottest part of the day. Please do not turn the air conditioning units down below 68 degrees as this could cause the units to freeze and stop working altogether.
Check-Out Procedures
Check-out time is 10:00 AM; your keyless entry code will expire at that time. There is no need to return to our office. Please remember to:
- Load and start the dishwasher(s).
- Leave beds unmade (do not remove sheets) and leave towels on the bathroom floor.
- Remove your trash from the home and take receptacles out to the street unless otherwise noted. Note: All trash must be placed in the provided receptacles. Loose items or trash bags are prohibited on the street and will not be picked up.
- Leave the house and outside areas in a tidy condition, with all trash and personal belongings removed.
- Close and lock all windows and doors. The SmartLock will not automatically lock behind you. To engage our SmartLock, touch the keypad (black glass) with the back of your hand, causing the locking mechanism to activate; the lock will then close.
