Fly Into Spring Kite Festival: April 2027 event dates are to be announced
There’s no better way to celebrate National Kite Month and the arrival of spring than with the Fly Into Spring Kite Festival. Typically held the first weekend in April, this free, family-friendly event takes place on the iconic dunes of Jockey’s Ridge State Park across the street from Jockey’s Ridge Crossing.

What to Expect at the Fly Into Spring Kite Festival
For over a decade, locals and visitors have gathered at Jockey’s Ridge each spring to enjoy a vibrant display of kites and watch professional kite flyers perform aerial demonstrations. You can also build and fly your own kite on the dunes while learning more about aviation history and the fun of kite flying.
Hosted by Kitty Hawk Kites, this two-day event fills the sky with colorful kites ranging from 30 to 100 feet in size. You’ll see all kinds of brilliant designs, from giant sea creatures and bouncing penguins to popular movie characters like Bugs Bunny and Dory, to name a few. Whether you’re 5 or 65, you’re sure to find a kite that makes you stop, point, and say, “Wow, look at that!”
With its steady winds and beautiful vistas, Jockey’s Ridge is the perfect place for an afternoon of kite-flying. If you aren’t into flying one yourself, relax in a beach chair, listen to some music, and enjoy the amazing show above you.
