OBX Turkey Trot: November 26, 2026

The annual Duck, NC Turkey Trot 5K is a great way to get out, enjoy the fresh coastal air, and maybe burn a few calories before settling in for your Thanksgiving meal this year. Loved by locals and visitors alike, this is a family-friendly event with a small-town feel and plenty of community spirit. Duck’s Turkey Trot is organized by Outer Banks Track Club, a 501C3 nonprofit.

History of the Turkey Trot in Duck, NC

The Advice 5K Turkey Trot was held annually for 25 years, with 2021 being its final year. In 2025, the First Flight Track Club (FFTC) revived this much-loved event. Established in 2024, FFTC raises money, awareness, and enthusiasm for runners and running sports in Dare County, with a focus on student athletes. The First Flight Track Club’s 2025 Turkey Trot 5K was a huge success, with runners and walkers of all ages and abilities completing the course, winning prizes, and enjoying the festive community atmosphere. The event was well-attended by the local community and vacationers alike.

What to Expect at the Duck, NC Turkey Trot 5K

Each registration comes with a t-shirt, swag bag, hot drink ticket for hot chocolate or coffee, and a Swells’a Brewing beer ticket for those over 21 years old. The fun includes an event reception and post-event celebration at Tree House Cafe & Coffee in the Scarborough Lane Shopping Village, charity auctions, raffles, and post-race snacks. Packet pickup will be held at Swells’a Brewing’s Duck Dive Bar at the back of the Scarborough Lane Shopping Village the night before the race. The 5K course begins on Christopher Drive near Scarborough Faire, and the finish line will be near the starting line. The first male and female race finishers will be awarded a prize, and prizes will also be given out randomly!
