    OBX Brewtag: October 24, 2026

    Grab your beach chairs and blankets and be part of the annual OBX Brewtag! Get ready for a day packed with live music, good food, craft beer and wine, and the chance to watch homemade flying machines soar through the air. Admission is free, and brew cards are available for $30 and include four full pours from a wide selection of local and regional breweries, cideries, and wineries.

    History of OBX Brewtag

    The first Outer Banks Brewtag event took place in Nags Head in 2015 and has grown into one of the area’s most unique festivals. The event celebrates flight, creativity, and great local brews while teams compete with their flying machines designed to hand-launch empty kegs the farthest. The event proceeds benefit the Rogallo Foundation, a nonprofit that brings educational outreach programs to schools and so much more. Inspired by Francis and Gertrude Rogallo’s invention of the flexible wing and Red Bull’s “Flutag,” Brewtag mixes engineering, imagination, and a whole lot of fun.

    In 1948, the Rogallos made history with the first successful flight of their flexible wing. Tested in their homemade wind tunnel, the invention helped inspire the development of hang gliders, paragliders, stunt kites, and more. Founded in 1992, the Rogallo Foundation continues to honor the Rogallos’ legacy by preserving their work and supporting education and research in gliding, soaring flight, and aerodynamics.

    What to Expect at OBX Brewtag

    Expect to see flying beer kegs launched from a 20-foot flight deck as teams dressed in wild costumes perform hilarious skits to fire up the crowd before their kegs take flight. Between the flights and festivities, guests can kick back with drinks from local and regional breweries. Past years’ food vendors have included local restaurants, food trucks, and barbecue favorites. Live music keeps the energy going throughout the day. Let’s not forget all of the fun for the kids! Previous years’ attractions have included jugglers, bounce houses, cornhole, and even a mechanical shark. Whether you’re there for the craft beer, tasty treats, debuting your own keg machine, or simply soaking up the carefree festival atmosphere, there’s never a dull moment at the OBX Brewtag.

    Because parking is limited on the grass near the event, OBX Brewtag typically offers shuttles to and from off-site parking locations.

    There’s plenty to check out around the festival, too. Take a walk and enjoy the views along the waterfront boardwalk that winds from the event lawn along the sound and marsh. The area is perfect for relaxing, snapping photos, or catching a classic Outer Banks sunset. You can head over to Nags Head Outlets to go shopping or grab a bite to eat after the festival. With beaches, restaurants, and attractions all nearby, it’s easy to turn Brewtag into a full day of OBX fun.
